A lot of people think they want/need a private chef when really they they want/need a meal service. I receive a lot of emails from folks asking about my services, and the truth is private chef fees are not comparable to simply paying for a plate of food. Private Chefs generally charge by a day rate, by the hour, and some on a salary. Ingredients are not included, they are compensated for their time planning custom menus for each individual client, the time it takes to curate/shop for all the ingredients, cooking, plating, cleaning, and travel when applicable. A workday for a private chef can be anywhere from 4-16 hours, all in.

Knowing that I am not a good fit for everyone seeking to level up their meal-game, I do my best to refer them to services that I know are doing good work. When I come across new ones, I order a sample of meals for myself, so I can feel confident referring you to them, while also shinning the spotlight on a company. If you’ve been playing with me here for a while, you know I love supporting other small businesses.

Recently I came across @ModelMealsKitchen, based further south, but learned that they serve Los Angeles too. I ran through a week worth of meals, and loved it. Their food is mindfully sourced, 100% paleo, and Whole30 compliant, something I know would help a lot of you newbies and busy-bees.

My meals included this Ahi dish, buffalo wings with slaw, mushroom “cashew cheese” burger with roasted veggies, herb artichoke frittata, beet hummus, spiced nut and seed clusters, lemon-garlic and roasted broccoli. All 4-5 ounces of food in each. Not shabby, eh?

If you’re in LA and looking for a meal service, check them out. I wish I could cook for all of you, but alas, I thoroughly enjoy being a private chef, CEO @phatfudge packer, and showcasing other businesses on my humble platform. Maybe I’ll see you at one of my Pop Up Events in the future. Feed ya later! xoM #eatplaycrush
