Why Can’t You Make Up Your Mind?
Back in May, I wrote a post about indecision and respecting the process of decision-making.
A few months later and I am still receiving emails thanking me for granting permission to hakuna your tatas and letting things naturally choose themselves.
But here’s the thing, there’s more to just “letting things happen” – it also takes readiness.
And how do we get ready?
BY DOING THE WORK.
We worry so much about the outcome (and we want the outcome NOW) that we forget about the process of getting there.
Are you ready for this next truth? Good things take time.
So ask yourself this: What are you doing to be prepared for those good things?
No really, what are you DOING? …I can’t hear you. Your actions are too loud.
In fact, I’m willing to bet that you’re spending more energy worrying about what could go wrong than you are actually doing the necessary work to make sure things to go right.
If you’re going to give “worry” the time of day, make it actionable.
Don’t worry about what could go wrong; Worry about if you’re in a place yet where you can handle it if everything were to go right.
Rather than aggressively asserting yourself into a knee-jerk decision, embrace the indifference as a sign that perhaps you are not ready, or more precisely, that you still have work to do.
Don’t worry, the flow of ‘forward movement’ doesn’t change but by putting energy into the process, you empower yourself to only make moves when it truly feels like the outcome has arrived – when it is READY to burst out of you.
The answer is in your actions.
It’s that simple, do the work and the clarity arrives.
This can apply to anything; creative projects, competitive sports, home buying, even finding true love.
For the outcome to be the best it can possibly be YOU have to be at YOUR very best, and that takes work.
It’s also a lot easier to take risks when you’re ready. Informed risk as I’ve heard it called.
(side bar: more on brilliant risk taking another time.)
For now, respect the process and put in the work in every area of your life.
The way you eat. The way you play. The way you live. It’s all preparation for everything going right in your life. Successful people live differently because they, very simply, live differently.
Your Homework:
- Write down 1 or 2 things you have been hesitant to pull the trigger on.
- Next to that, write down what immediate next actions you can take right now to be better prepared to make said decisions.
- Do the work. (duh)
You may not be ready now, but when you are, the world better watch the funk out!
Trust your gut,
xoM
