My Practice: Small Talk
Small talk is the longest bridge between two people.
I wanted to say that small talk is the longest distance between two people, but there is something specific in the idea of a bridge. It’s something you can visualize stepping onto, getting closer to the other person.
When it comes to small talk, I am awful at it. Not really trying to improve, either. BUT, I do make an effort (taking a step onto the bridge, if you will) in flipping a surface level exchange into a deeper, more fun, sometimes awkward, and always memorable conversation.
Not everyone wants to engage back and it’s cool. On one hand, I may have bridged the gap. And on the other hand, I may have spared myself from a long exchange of mindless noise.
Annnnd that concludes my mega random stream of thoughts while I wait for 10 lbs of coconut oil and coconut butter to melt. ??#eatplaycrush
